Lancaster West Refurbishment: Procurement Workshop

What Is Procurement?

Procurement is the process of finding and acquiring works, goods and services from external sources and agreeing terms for these. This is often carried out through a tendering or competitive bidding process.

As part of the refurbishment programme on The Lancaster West Estate, the Neighbourhood Team (LWNT) and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC) will be making important decisions about who is chosen to do the work here and why.

The Residents’ Association (LWRA) have been working with LWNT to ensure that residents have a real say in the estate refurbishment and as the procurement process plays a vital role in this, we are inviting residents to join this process, become informed and help us to make these important decisions.

This will ensure the best use of the funds and the best possible quality of workmanship through a fair and measured process.

The workshop is open to all Lancaster West Estate Residents.

Paul Orett (Procurement Lead for RBKC) will be delivering the training session on Sunday 21 October from 12pm to 2pm at Kensington Leisure Centre.

The Session will cover:

  • Understanding the procurement process

  • Examples of good practice

  • An outline of the role of the residents association during selection

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

If you are interested in attending, please email info@lancwestra.com with your name and address.

Notting Dale Forum

See attached flyer for information on the Notting Dale Forum and how to get involved in the future of the area, if you live in North Kensington.

The Notting Dale Forum provides an opportunity for any resident from Notting Dale to have their say about:

  • Existing and future local services

  • What local people value most about the area

  • What changes and improvements might be welcomed over the coming years; and

  • How residents might want to stay involved.

At this meeting of the Forum, residents will have the chance to discuss which local organisations should be nominated to fill the four co-optee places on the Grenfell Recovery Scrutiny Committee.

Notting Dale Councillor Robert Atkinson will be chairing the Notting Dale Forum and will be happy to take questions on any important topics that residents wish to discuss.

Public Living Room

"The RBKC / Epic cic Youth Forum in partnership with RBKC Health and Wellbeing Team (Grenfell Response) will be opening our pop up “Public Living Room” on Portobello Green, W10 5TD from Tuesday the 7th - Thursday the 9th of August 12 - 4pm.

The aim of this project is for young people across the borough to create a living room which suits the needs in their community. A public living room is a space where people feel comfortable to go and connect with others, but not necessarily ask for any help or type of ‘service’.

The Epic Youth Forum are one of the first 12 pilot organisation to receive ‘Public Living Room Boxes’ which have been sent to groups and organisations around the world.

These boxes contain all sorts of items that reflect what www.camerados.org have learnt from testing the living room concept over the last couple of years and will have a variety of items that they see as fundamental to the success of the living room.

To build on the current relationship between Epic, the community and our young people. I would like to invite you, your colleagues, partners and networks to attend our “Living Room” pop up, represent your organisation, discuss with others and expand on the great work you are doing."

Grenfell: Our Home

A film company called Parable have produced a Channel 4 documentary in virtual reality about people’s lives in Grenfell before the fire. It’s a positive 15 minute film with beautiful and respectful animation, with no graphic or disturbing images. We are told all the people who watched it so far, including survivors, really liked the film.

The film is called ‘Grenfell: Our Home’ and the producers have been working with Grenfell United and the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Adult Service to organise three days of screenings next week for the local community, providing on-site support by having NHS therapists present in case the content brings up any issues (the film includes a short section on the fire itself). The documentary will be released on 3rd July and it premiered last week at the Sheffield DocFest, where it won the VR Audience Award. You can see a one minute trailer at the following link https://www.facebook.com/Channel4News/videos/10155992728551939/

The screenings are free and are taking place next week on 28th, 29th and 30th June. All Lancaster West residents are welcome to attend. They are showing the film in slots and, in order to allocate the right number of headsets, people are invited to book on Eventbrite.

They have a dedicated email for any enquiries, which is grenfellourhome@parableworks.com.
