As developing a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was supported by nearly 70 per cent of the respondents the Council will now carefully review the complaints data in order to draft a PSPO. The PSPO will promote and encourage responsible busking, whilst discouraging irresponsible anti-social busking and street entertainment. They will restrict busking and street entertainment in certain locations at certain times and may consider busking free areas. Their goal is not to limit artistic creativity, but to enhance the quality of life for residents and provide opportunity for entertainers.

Terry Oliver, Interim Director for Cleaner, Greener and Cultural Services is now working with colleagues in Legal, Noise and Nuisance, Street Enforcement and Community Safety to produce this PSPO, this will then require an additional statutory consultation which is anticipated to take place in late November.
