Historic cross-party meeting at Westminster
This June, Lancaster West Residents’ Association (LWRA) organised a ‘historic cross party meeting’ at Westminster, to meet with political leaders and local officials, to discuss the ongoing problems faced by us residents on Lancaster West Estate.
Chaired by LWRA, the first-of-a-kind meeting was supported by MPs Joe Powell and Kevin Hollinrake and was focussed on the refurbishment and the future of the communities affected by the Grenfell fire. It was the first time since 2017 that government representatives, opposition leaders, local council members and residents all came together.
Many residents and young people from the estate, some even under 10 at the time of the fire also took part, showing the need for accountability across generations. Speakers included: Hon. Alex Norris MP, Minister for Building Safety and Grenfell
Hon. Kevin Hollinrake, Shadow Secretary for Housing and Communities Cllr. Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of RBKC Cllr. Sof McVeigh, Lead Member for Housing at RBKC Hon. Joe Powell MP, Kensington and Bayswater Hon. Florence Eshalomi, Chair of Housing Select Committee Baroness Jane Scott Lord Rami Ranger FRSA Each speaker reiterated their commitment to collaborative action, and to work alongside LWRA to honour the promises made in the aftermath of the tragedy
